Continuing the “Encounter” aspect of becoming a “missional” congregation, we “encounter God’s Spirit, each other, and the surrounding community.”* The congregation is invited – both individually and in group settings/meetings “to pray daily to be led by the Spirit and to have courage to go where the Spirit leads” through the Mission Prayer:
Lord, where will your Spirit lead today? Help me be fully awake and ready to respond. Grant me the courage to risk something new and become a blessing of your love and peace. Amen.
Pastors: Make business card size copies of the Mission Prayer and hand out to each member. Encourage them to:
(1) Make a personal commitment to offer this prayer at the beginning of each day;
(2) In groups, share with one another how this prayer is impacting your sense of where God is leading and any changes that you are noticing.
In addition to individual prayer, try starting a meeting with the Mission Prayer in this way: Pass out copies of the prayer, and read it aloud, slowly, three times. Then allow 3-5 minutes of silence for reflection and the Spirit’s promptings.
